Christmas decor items that are helpful to have on hand

Christmas Decorating Ideas

Here are all of my favorite Christmas decorating ideas – pick out your favorites and have fun!

#1 Christmas ornaments in containers

This one is so simple. Grab a pack of ornaments that you like from the store and just throw them in a bowl or other receptacle.

These blue and white ceramic ornaments are from Crate and Barrel and look so pretty in this thrifted white bowl.

One of my favorite decor pieces this year! I bought all of these from a barn sale. This rusty industrial basket looks so festive with the ornaments in it. I added some wood beaded garland for texture (which is a theme that I will repeat a lot here) and done!

#2 Use a variety of garlands for texture & color

You can’t have too much garland at Christmas. I pick up these up here and there as I find ones I like. These are from Michael’s (but these are similar) and add the perfect amount of color to these silver ornaments. If you have your decor set up and it looks like it is missing something, add some garland and see if that makes it better!

#3 USE fresh greens anywhere and everywhere

I can’t believe that I spent so much money on fresh greens throughout the years. Here is my tip. Go to your local Christmas tree farm and ask for the clippings. If you are getting a tree there, grab the pieces that they cut off. They are free and saves the farm the trouble of cleaning them up!

If you don’t want to make a trip to the farm, go in your back yard and clip greens off your trees, off the bushes, or anywhere you have plants. This little tray has clippings from our front shrubbery.

#4 Use all the candles and add twinkle lights

You cannot have too many candles at Christmas time. Throughout the years I have added candles and lights but this year I really pulled out all the stops and added these brass candle sticks and tons of candles and it is my absolute favorite Christmas decor that I have ever had! When these candles turn on at night, our house is transformed into the coziest place ever!

And how beautiful are these? Buy small glass candle holders with a hook on top and string fishing line through it. Add a candle on a timer and you get the most beautiful candlelit glow every night!
