Tart apples topped with sweet cinnamon crumble, this apple crisp recipe is full of delicious flavors and can be enjoyed any time of the year!

Hi there! It’s Kelly from Typically Simple and I’m back with another yummy treat recipe to share with you all, a quick and simple apple crisp.

It’s the perfect recipe all year long. But since the apple harvest happens in the fall, it tastes like all amazing emotions of autumn – bright, cheery, happiness!

An easy dessert any time of year

Apple crisp is one of my favorite desserts to make any time of the year! While I do find myself making it more often in the fall because of all the fresh, yummy apples available, it’s also one of my go-to recipes to make in the winter.

There’s just something about the smell of cinnamon baking in the oven on a cold, winter day that makes me say, “YUM!” And because it’s so simple to make, it is easy to throw together right before a dinner party; it also pairs well with an after-dinner coffee.

The ingredients are ones that you most likely already have in your pantry. You can use any types of apples in this recipe, although I like to use granny smith apples to offset the sweet crumble with a little bit of tart flavor.

All the ingredients for easy apple crisp

How to core and peel apples quickly

All the apples should be peeled, cored, and sliced.

I like to use a corer slicer tool to speed up this step. Each slice of apple should be about half an inch thick. You don’t want them too thin or they will bake into applesauce!

What size pan to use for easy apple crisp

I suggest using a 9×13 baking pan in which to bake the apples. You will be baking the apples alone in the pan.

If you are making a smaller batch, you can use a loaf pan. A cast-iron skillet will work too.

Old fashioned oats or quick oats?

You want the old fashioned oats. Quick oats are chopped up smaller and won’t have the same crunch effect on the apple crisp.

Use sweet cream butter

For the topping, use a sweet cream butter. It will bring out the sweetness of the apples. Salted or unsalted doesn’t matter as much, so don’t worry about that.

How to tell when it’s done cooking

Bake for 35-40 minutes, until the edges start to look brown and bubbly. You do not want to overcook or the apples will get too mushy. Remove from oven and serve warm with a scoop of ice cream!
